I understand, OP. Not ever addiction has to be an opiate or narcotic or amphetamine. Some people have food or sex addictions. My addiction is shopping. Trust me, you just crave it sometimes. It gets in your head and it doesn't go away until you give into the urge. But for the most part, it is easy to control.

It's only been in the past 15-20 years that the term "addiction" has been applied to any compulsive behavior under the sun. It's mostly a marketing ploy by the therapy-rehab industry, but it's been a hugely successful one.
