Believe in a god, if you must. What I can't fathom is your countrymen's insatiable desire to believe that bronze-age tribal mythology is a substitute for scientific research. If you want to cling to a faith, I guess that hurts no-one but you - but when you actively try to undermine the advancement of knowledge, then you're a threat to us all. And you're betraying your place as the current leading world power. When Britain ran the world, we had the Industrial Revolution and massive social and political reforms. What are you doing? How much money in your country is spent trying to prove bizarre and entirely incorrect drivel like creationism and the flood, or actually searching for the garden of Eden? How much intellectual harm are you doing to yourselves and to the world?

I've said it before, I'll say it again - Christian fundamentalists worry me far more then Muslim or Hindu or any other kind. They are the really dangerous ones.

Outstanding post, very well stated. And I would add this: It is a huge irony that the British now laugh at us (quite correctly) for our religious hysteria, when they still retain the state religion we were trying to escape in the first place. Talk about a well-intentioned idea that went horribly wrong.
