You can phone MS and get the licence moved over to a new motherboard (it is after all a repair) they are reasonable (at least in europe they are) as long as the licence is genuine. But the fault you describe sounds heat related (bad joint on the board is closing once the box warms up) this will only get worse over time. You can buy an am2+ motherboard for under 50usd.

I've been working on computers for years and never tried to ask Microsoft for a license transfer. Thanks for this tip. I have a monster of a computer that lost it's motherboard and now it runs Linux. Wouldn't mind putting Windows 7 back on that thing.
