When I close my eyes for sleep I thing about how I could be in a space ship and destroy the world. The problem is the shield has to be pretty fuckin powerful. All the jets and surface missiles in shit. Just don't see how any alien tech could do it.

Chances are any alien race technically advanced enough to travel through the galaxy would have much more efficient and effective energy sources than ours. In comparison our weapons would seem so inefficient they probably wouldn't even be a factor.

Some very powerful long range deflection mechanism would work, quite efficiently.

Yep long distance will do it. Jets and missiles have limited range. And if shooting from space, depending on type of bomb all they would have to do is shoot in general direction of Earth and get them into the atmosphere and let gravity do the rest.
