Does anybody know why people 'spam' groups with unrelated content? I've seen so many groups with hundreds upon hundreds of videos not related to the subject, all posted by the same user at the same time.

Do they make money doing that somehow? Or do some people get off knowing they're actually making it harder for other people to get off?

If I'm in a group titled "Mutual Masturbation" chances are I won't be too excited to see a clothed woman dancing alone to random music... a hundred times.

They're just inconsiderate dickheads trying to promote their own uploads to up the number of views, otherwise known as stats whores.

I figured as much, but to what end? Do they make money? Win prizes? Or is it just for the sheer prestige?

More than likely, it's because these people are uploading videos en masse and clicking the "Add to Groups" button without even thinking about it. Some may just do it to get the stats and views on their page. Either way, it's a dick move.
