As an American, why do you use the British spellings of "favor" and "favorite"?

Does this really baffle you? If you've ever used a spell check it'll detect either of those words as spelt wrong if its on default 'English' and not 'US-English'.

Yes, it really baffled me. Never in my life have I required spell check, because I'm super-duper.

Even if it was spell check defaulting to "English" and not "US-English," it's strange that she kept them spelled that way.
Spell checkers generally show what's auto-corrected when writing; they'll otherwise indicate possible misspelled words. However, I suppose she may have lacked the perception to notice they were modified, if auto-corrected.
