Religion isn't the problem. REVEALED religion (religions that us a prophet that tells everyone that God talked to them and you have to take their word on it) is the problem.
Deism, a belief that many of our founders had, is a simple belief in a creator. It is a natural religion free of dogma and insanity.

its so convenient that all the biblical stuff happened within the same 100-200 yr span, but nothing since then....why hasnt "god" been more active in the past 2000 yrs?? all religion is a sham people

I don't think religion started out as a scam. I'm pretty sure the intentions were good, but, like all things when power comes into play, new ambitions become realized and a once good thing becomes corrupted.
Of course the Bible is simply a collection of allegories to explain things. Even though it should be taken with a grain of salt, there is a lot to learn in there, like with all religious texts.

All the monotheist desert cults are the troublemakers... Christianity, Islam and Judaism. All living by unchanged rules written before mankind knew much about the world (I'm sure if Jesus, Mohammed or Abraham could see what 'their' followers were up to in 20210 they'd be horrified!) and all arrogant enough to want to impose thiier god / culture on everyone.
You don't see many Buddhists, Hindus, general deists /pantheists or indeed atheists wanting another human being dead for his beliefs.
Mind you, capitalism is a religion, and the most immoral of the fucking lot!

Religion was simply our way of explaining the mysteries of the world before science.
People who claim that it was created as nothing more than a money-making scheme or a way on controlling people are clueless.
