I don't know you two enough to tell you what to do, but if this is an important matter for him your lie will backfire you right in the face.
Maybe you can talk him up about that when you're in a comfy moment (on a couch, curled up in his arms?) and tell him that you feel the need to be honest and that you are afraid of his reaction?

The insecurity is your own. You fear judgement, and honest information is a prerequisite for good judgement.
You lied because you were insecure in the ability of your relationship, reputation, and value to your partner being sufficient to carry you past your revealed history.
