When that happens they cut a hole in the side of your abdomen and set up something kind of like a bag and then do surgery on you later to give you an asshole and close up your side. It is not uncommon.

She told me she was having the surgery when she was 17. Does that mean, at the moment, she doesn't have an anus? Thatd explain why I didn't see one... But I didn't noticably look where there should be one

They usually do it when you are born before you leave the hospital. I don't know how it would work if she was having the surgery that late.
