Get a VPN for your laptop and encrypt your hard drive. Might be all legit, but there is still a lot of crime in the area, that way noone can get your banking or other data off of your laptop. The VPN will make your internet secure. I travel the world, never know when someone associated with the ones you are with may see an opportunity. I had 2 girl "roommates", once on a trip for a few days and once close to where I live. The first ones were in a college town in northern california. I was only there a few days, didn't see my friends I was visiting the entire time, haha, it was too good to be true, but it was true and I kick myself 20 years later for not going back up becuase I was too busy with work. The ones near where I live had bad past male relationships, were private flight attendants (think private jets) and were tired of the pilots and rich people hitting on them. I don't even recall where we ran into each other, but It was the brunette that I started talking to, we had a great conversation going and she called her "roommate" and we all met up and went out to dinner, and it went from there for a few months. They traveled a lot, as did I, and after those few months we just didn't intersect as much and they reached out a few more times asking if I could be the long term male in their relationship, and I was honest in that I couldn't because my work never had me home, they were awesome about it, found a new person to be their guy. But, the one has a kid now and I am his guardian as they feel like I am the best role model for him. Yeah, odd, very odd overall, but we all cared for each other it was just that my work had me in different countries every month and I didn't have the energy for what they needed. And to be clear, I don't share with other males, so that was it.

Moral of those short stories, if it feels right and you have the time, check it out. It might really work. Also, you could become a digital nomad, working for a U.S. company but working remote from Cancun. I have people on my team working in multiple countries, the only rule I have for them is that if they move to a different time zone, they have to set their work hours to the time zone they were actually hired to work in, not where they choose to live. Just something to think about as many careers have a fully or partially remote option.
