America's been this idea of a promised land ever since the europeans colonised it. A fresh start in a land rich with resources, where any man can make it rich. Their whole culture has been about maintaining this image of freedom and individuality where you can do whatever you want as long as it's legal (which anyone with half a braincell knows isn't true).

You are free to do whatever you chose as long as A) It's within the law, and B) You pay the government to be able to do it. Own your own home (then pay property taxes), Own a vehicle (and pay, in Illinois anyway, $100+ a year to use it. You are free to do a lot of things, as long as you pay for the right to do so. Ironic huh?
