I know a lot of females in my past that get off on playing emotional games with men. I'm not saying they all do, but yes, some just get a kick out of it. They need the attention and feel empty without it.

My advice to you is to walk away. Talk to her one last time, lie to her and tell her everything's great, you're focusing on work/writing/church/sports what ever. Tell her it's not a good idea to keep in touch but that you wish her the best of luck. Tell her ALL OF THIS with a smile on your face. It's time to move on.

OP here. Why would I even WANT to tell her everything's great? Let her walk away with a smile? Do this for her peace of mind? Do you really think she deserves that much?

The point is to get rid of any and all excuse for her to keep coming back and "checking up on you". As long as you start getting over this tough situation, what do you care if she has piece of mind or not? Your goal is being achieved. I promise you, you would not be over her is she were still around. Sounds like you're the one looking for the excuse to keep her around...
