12 of Penelope's serving maids developed a liking for the various suitors, and told them what she was doing.

They were all set to force her to choose when Odysseus came home, disguised as a beggar.

He killed the suitors, and Telemachus hanged the maids who had betrayed Penelope.

@noone23 You should read the Odyssey.

Odysseus went off to the Trojan war, leaving his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus to run the kingdom.

While he was away, some of his subjects (think Barons or Counts vs. a King) decided they wanted to take over the kingdom. Their plan was to get Penelope to choose one: he would get the girl and the kingdom both.

But Penelope kept making excuses, hoping that Odysseus would come home. She insisted she had to weave a burial shroud for Ody
